Ivy Spencer; Natural Figure Competitor; Tall Class
In the winter of 2009, I made a decision to regain some level of fitness by joining Snap Fitness through their Fitness Study, which is when I met Judah Clarke. He was very polite and eager to assist me with any questions I had regarding exercises or general topics regarding diet and weight loss. Judah was extremely personable and easy to talk to. During our scheduled sessions, we talked about everything from food to family.
At the end of the trial, I joined Snap and came to know many people there. As the years progressed, I went off on my own using the exercises I learned to maintain health and fitness. Judah was readily available to guide me and willing to help answer any questions I had. He had always said that I was capable of doing so much more and that he thought I should consider training for a figure competition show. I, being a person that doesn’t like too many rules and restrictions, declined the thought. I thought I would be pleased staying in my own little box…complacent…happy. Who likes challenges anyway?
I decided that I was ok just continuing my basic routine and was completely satisfied with doing that indefinitely. One variable I didn’t consider was Judah and his tenacity. Without fail, he would mention the competition and that he thought it was something I could do. Of course I threw every excuse I could to keep him from asking me to do it. And of course, due to his persistent nature, he would say, “You can do it.” After more than a year of his encouraging words, I decided to ponder the thought that this was indeed something I could really do.
In July of 2012, I made a commitment to train with Judah for twelve weeks for my very first figure competition. I won’t lie, this was indeed one of the most challenging things I have ever done in my life. I loved and hated every minute of it, especially the very end. I pushed my body to the very edge and watched it change in ways I never thought possible. I became more than just fit--I was now considered an athlete!
Due to Judah’s constant nature, I was able to reach far beyond what I thought I could ever do. In twelve weeks I lost 23 pounds and won 3rd place in my first competition. With his guidance I gained the strength, knowledge and experience of a life time. I made a commitment to myself to be more than just happy in my little box but to step out and do much more. I wanted more than to win my first figure competition; I wanted to push myself into the experience. Without Judah, this would not have been possible.
